Backpacking Europe
What about a backpacking Europe adventure?
There are a lot of things you need to know when traveling from
country to country overseas. Traveling by backpack enables one
the freedom to take their time, meet new people, and stop
almost anywhere.
The backpacker tends to have a deeper experience with the
native people and may wander into uncharted territory so it is
important to check out our list of guidelines below before
travel overseas.
Make a list of the countries, states, provinces or counties
you plan on seeing. Go online and print out the laws and
customs for these areas. My son got a pretty steep parking
ticket when he parked in an area that had a sign saying "No
Standing." Now he is well aware that in that city that means
"No Parking."
Do you have all the paperwork needed for travel? Check
online to see what the various countries you may need to enter
want. Some just need your passport, some need to see your birth
certificate or drivers license also. Do they require special
travel visas along with your passport?
Purchase a new map of the region you will be traveling to.
You may want to shop or stay somewhere special and discover
that it is no longer there.
Similar to when you backpack in the wilderness at home you
need to leave a detailed itinerary of where you will be on a
particular date. An emergency could arise at home which would
require that you be notified.
It is always good to have a plan "B" just in case an
emergency arises. Again your family at home will need to be
aware of your plan "B" also.
Take only what you absolutely need. Do not bring your nice
jewelry or other costly items. Invite a friend to travel with
you. There is safety in numbers.
Stay on public roadways and do not wander into locations
that may be restricted. The locals may be allowed to shoot
first and ask questions later.
If you take heed of the few tips and guidelines we have
suggested, your backpacking Europe adventure could possibly be
one of your most thrilling travel experiences.
